a {halfway} homemade sweater

we've had like 4 days of chilly weather. on one of the first of those days, we opened all the windows in our apartment to freshen up the air and start to feel like it's fall/winter.

to remedy maude's shivering, i made her a sweater!

when we were little, my mom used to dress our schnauzer in our old sweaters and sweatshirts. well, nik and i don't exactly have any old kids' clothes. so! i went out to a nearby goodwill and picked up a petite women's sweater for maude. i thought i picked a good one - it's a pretty red and good quality fabric.

i've sown it to fit maude in both the body and the arms - nik and i started laughing though when we put it on her because the turtleneck makes maude look like she's been selected for a dog calendar. but it keeps her warm so i don't have the heart to remove the turtleneck part just yet! so funny.

by the way, if you're looking for instructions, i went over to the ladies at Two Blue Houses. they give a really good play by play, but essentially you're going to put the sweater on inside out, pin it in where you want it, then sew.

here's how she looks:

first fitting. there were a few tentative tail waggles.

final product. if maude looks distrusting to you, know that this is literally the 5th time she's tried this sweater on. she's not so into it anymore.
